CHAMPS
Foundations is a component of the Safe & Civil Schools program that focuses on improving school climate and student behavior. Through this program, a campus-level Foundations Team is created. This team is composed of principals, the counselor, grade-level teacher representatives, and specialists. The Foundations team works together with faculty to establish procedures and expectations for students while in the hallways, restrooms, cafeteria, and at recess. Brookwood Elementary is in the 4th year of implementing the Foundations program.
CHAMPS is a proactive and positive approach to classroom management. It is designed to help teachers manage student behavior and increase student motivation. It provides a very structured way to communicate classroom expectations and procedures. The acronym CHAMPS reflects the type of expectations the teacher must clarify to students to effectively decrease behavior and increase the amount of learning that takes place:
